First day of work is almost over.

Matthew 0 Comments

Normally I would not have time to post from work, however one of the Computer Center’s (of which I am the manager of) volunteers called out today so I need to be at the help desk away from my office. Got a lot of work done today and hope to make an impact while I am here. I have met most of the staff (of which there is very few) and I think I will fit in wonderfully.

At first I was really overwhelmed, I mean a 5 hours crash course can only prep you for so much, but I have been assured by the others that I am not expected to remember everything I was told.…

Crash course over, 1st day is Monday

Ok, so I just got back to my humble abode trying to digest all the information that I ingested during my 5 hours of training. Charlotte, my predecessor, and therefore trainer, managed to successfully inform me of everything there is to know about the job, something that is not a very easy task. I can only hope that I am as good a Manager and Systems Admin as she was.

My first thought about this job was that it would be a breeze, I mean I AM a Network Admin and have been for years, but there is a lot more to this job than just Network Administration.…

First day of training.

Matthew 0 Comments

Well I am on my way to train for my new position as a Computer Center Manager And Network/System administrator at the Atwater Library and Computer Center. I didn’t get much sleep last night, prolly Cruz of nerves and excitement of the new job and the new responsibilities I will be undertaking.

Its been a while since I have been a system admin for someone other than family. As many know I spent 7 years being a system admin for Koster Interactive Design inc., my late father’s company. I have also spent the last 2years being
the system admin for IceWeb Solutions Inc.,…

Second test of JetPack

Matthew 1 Comment

As I mentioned in my last post I am testing out WordPress.com’s new wordpress plugin called JetPack.  It adds a lot of the functionality that WP.com users get to your hosted installation. The question though, is does it post to social media sites when you post from a cell phone using a mobile app like WordPress for Android, Apple, and Blackberry.

This post will serve as a test as I am writing this on my Galaxy Nexus.  I will comment if it works or not.…

Gotta Post more

Matthew 2 Comments

Ok, so I figured I would make a mega post with a few new and exciting things that are going on. First we here at ConsideredNormal.com have started using WordPress.com’s JetPack which allows us to seamlessly connect to Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr without having to create applications and set up complex configurations. This of course being the first post after installing the tool as we shall see how well it works on all fronts.

The second piece of big news is that after 8 years of waiting, I have finally been hired for a job in my field. I am not the Computer Center Manager and Network/Systems Administrator for the Atwater Library and Computer Center in Westmount QC.…

Happy Thanksgiving

Matthew 0 Comments

Well its that time of year for us Canadians to spend time with our families. I myself have taken the 2 hour trip to Ottawa to spend the holidays with my Mom and to see some friends I have not seen in ages. This is my second trip to O-Town in the last month as last week was the CD Release for my fav local band Go Long (!), but as I was only up for the night I didn’t have time to see everyone I would have liked to, so this weekend I am spending time with as many people as I can schedule, then back off to Montreal I go till prolly Xmas.…

Go Long (!) CD Release.

Matthew 0 Comments

I have the extreme pleasure of writing this blog post directly from the CD Release Party for Go Long (!).  Its been an amazing journey for the band to come this far in so short of time. In one interview they stated they were not really planning on doing a release just yet, but the demand from their fans drove them to do think twice about waiting.

I personally have been following Dani’s career for quite a few years now and I feel extremely honored to have the privilege watching these up and coming musicians come so far.

They opened with the tune of their recent video release “Hurricane” followed by “Overwhelmed” then into there rendition of Alana Miles’ “Black Velvet”.…

Jelly Bean finally arrives on the Gallaxy Nexus (Virgin Mobile)

Matthew 0 Comments

A few days ago my phone updated, however I was sadly disappointed when it ended up being a minor update from 4.01 to 4.02 of Ice Cream Sandwich.

Well last night there was another update. This time it was the update I have been waiting for; finally my phone is running Android 4.1.1 Jellybean. Although I really did like the opening sequence for Ice Cream Sandwich (the loading screen was really colourful and animated), the new X loading screen just doesn’t do it for me, But I am already noticing the difference. Before when I would tilt my phone to the side to type it would lag a bit, so the lag corrections of Jellybean are living up to the hype.…

Go Long (!) New Video

Matthew 0 Comments

In July I posted about my favourite local band (to my home town of Ottawa), Go Long (!). I have been following the beautiful voice of Danielle Allard (Lead Singer of Go Long(!)) for quite a few years and I am extremely impressed with how far she has come since the days of Far From the Trees (The first band I saw Dani sing in). With the CD Release less than a month away I was excited to hear that they released an new video from their soon to be released album.

Having followed Dani and Lucas since they join together and more recently following the trio (Dani, Lucas and Nicolas) and of course being their web master, I have had the privileged of listening to their wonderful style of music.…

Google Nav on the Nexus

Matthew 0 Comments

Well this is new, the blackberry definitely didn’t have this app installed. I had to get from my apartment in Dorval all the way to Canada Computers in Laval with absolutely no idea how to get there by car. That’s right , 6months on the island and I rarely leave Dorval. But none the less I neded to fix my PC.  So I access their website on my new nexus and I hut the link to Google maps (I was gonna copy the address and add it manually but I can’t figure out how to copy text from a web site on this thing) and I hit directions.…
