UPDATE: Going from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, Installing apps the Easy way, and Much Much more.

Well its been a while since I posted anything of value. So today, while its slow at work, I decided to post about my experience in upgrading my laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 which was released on the 29th of July (Yay Free Upgrade). Some of the things I will cover are what to look out for, and more info on what the update allows you to do. I will also cover 2 ways to install free applications the easy way after a wipe and reload (or a bare-metal install). And Finally I will give an update on some of the posts to come.…

Configuring multiple IPs on Debian – The Easy Way

I was recently tasked with adding 100+ ips to server at work. Normally we deal with smaller networks, like /28 or /29, but this guy had a /25 which is 128 IPs (125 usable) (Side Note: before you argue and tell me it should be 126 Usable, In our line of work, there are 3 unusable IPs instead of 2… Normally you have Network (first IP in range) and Broadcast (last IP in range), in our line, we add a Gateway (Second IP in range) which is not usable by a server) SO taking away all the unusable IPs, and of course the primary IP assigned to the NIC card, that results in 124 IPs needing to be assigned.…

Updates on the way, soon.

I am nearing the end of my night shift, and my posting ability has suffered greatly. I have a few posts coming soon including how to get free personal SSL certificates (you will see that my site here now has HTTPS in front of the URL) as well as some other techie stuff I have wanted to post about. So stay tuned. I haven’t disappeared… not yet anyway.…

Project Metro is a go

It’s about time.  I have been planning this project for about 2 years now.  Ever since I moved to Montréal, I have been fascinated by The Metro, Montréal’s subway system. I had planned to do this project back in 2013, but other projects took priority.  But this Spring/Summer, I have more than ample time to take this project on full swing. In fact I plan to hit the Green Line tomorrow morning (early in the morning) and take a lot of pics as I go.

Take a look at the project’s site for more information…

RANT: Stop making EVERYTHING about Race.

As many of you who watch/read/listen to the news, there have been an increasing amount of Police Brutality incidents involving white cops and black victims, which in most reported cases results in the needless death of the victim. The most recent of course being Freddie Gray’s death in police custody. Which resulted in the massive protests, riots and looting happening in Baltimore.  This article is not about that although I do have this to say about it.  The police officers involved in the needless acts of violence towards anyone, black or not, should never be put back on the streets.  …

Sunrise on the Island

So I actually made it down to the water in time to watch the sun rise. Here is my short (sped up) video of the sunrise, and a few photos I took along the way.…

Back to being a Photographer – Well as a hobby – For the Summer

Well summer is on its way, a few more weeks and the trees will start buddy and the green colour will return to the grass and trees.  That can only mean one thing, time to dust off the camera and go (photo)shooting.  But I am not going to wait till Summer.  Tomorrow morning (as I am now on Nights) I will be heading to Old Montreal to watch the sun rise and take a few snaps of early morning life here in Montreal.

Its been a while, so I have to go and buy some batteries.  I don’t yet have my DSLR camera yet, so sadly I am stuck with my Quick Cam, but it has got some good resolution.  …

Cloud Wars – Finding The Best Cost Effective Cloud Server Solutions

Over the past month or so I have been posting articles on Cloud Servers and how useful they are for just about anyone.  Most people think of these servers as a great resource for developers, especially when it comes to topics like Ruby on Rails or learning how to do Load Balancing.  However cost-effective servers are a great resource for just about anyone.  They are great for creating your own personal file cloud or creating a personal VPN to watch Netflix and Hulu from outside the US.

Just as the need for Cloud Servers may vary, so do the services and offers provided by different hosts.…

Installing Ruby on Rails (On CentOS) – The EASY Way

It seems every tutorial I find on the net has something wrong with it.  Its either out of date, or for the wrong operating system.  Many of the tutorials show you how to install Ruby on Windows or Mac, but no real instructions on how to install it in a production environment.  This strikes me as odd, I mean, whats the point of only having a development environment if you can’t eventually move it into production?

I found one tutorial that was on the right track, but sadly it was outdated, so here is an up-to-date version as of today, April 11, 2015.…

I just realized… I am a MegaFan…

Ok, for those of you who can’t put it together, a MegaFan is a An obsessively enthusiastic fan. And I just realized (well ok, I knew all along) that I am one.

As you all should know, especially since I just posted about it a few days ago, my good friend Danielle Allard is about to release her second CD, Chameleon, on May 9th at the Bourbon Room (get your tickets here).  And I know I have mentioned it several times that I have been following Dani’s career for quite some time.  I would say AT LEAST 8 years.  And I have proof!……
