The Death of Clef – The Best WordPress Authentication Plugin

It’s a sad day. Well, it was a few days ago when I found out that the best WordPress Authentication Plugin (IMHO), Clef, was calling it quits.

I received an email from Jesse Pollak over at Clef:

I’m writing to inform you that starting today, we’ll be sunsetting the Clef product with a final shutdown date of 6/6 (official blog post here). Everything will remain fully functional and maintained until that date, at which point the mobile apps will cease functioning and be removed from the Google Play and Apple App stores.

We’ve explored every option to keep the Clef product alive and are deeply sorry for any inconvenience this transition will cause.

5 years on the Island

Although technically it is the 2nd of January, as I just got off work a mear 2 hours ago, it still feels like the 1st to me. That being said, the 1st of January 2017 marks the 5th anniversary of the day I took the biggest risk of my life thus far.

5 years ago, I made the decision to change my life, to start a new, to throw away all the saftey nets, and take a leap of faith. 5 years ago today (yesterday for all of you date and time freaks) marks 5 years from the day I decided to leave behind my life in Ontario, and move to Quebec.…

That nostalgic feeling… How things have changed….

In my parent’s generation, the advent of the TV was the big hit, and maybe a phone in every home (or at least your own line instead of a party line). Our generation, well those born in the late 70’s and 80’s (I’m a 79er personally) we have seen a lot of development in the area of technology… Going from CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) TVs to Flat Screen LCD/LED TVs, having a computer in every home, and some small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, and of course, cell phone technology, going from the brick (My father had one) to smaller cell phones to the advent of the smartphone.…

Configuring Software RAID1 after installation of Ubuntu 16

Preamble

We all know how easy it is to set up software RAID1 during install… but what if you had to do it afterward?  Say for instance you only had one HDD at the time and decided later on you wanted to add a second drive and make it into a Mirror.  Well, this tutorial will show you how to add a second drive of the same size (very important that they be the same size!) and create a RAID on Ubuntu 16 after installation.

For this example, I used Ubuntu 16.04.1 without LVM and without custom partitioning.   And I have already added the second drive to the system.…

Free Secure Email Certificate from Comodo

Hello Again folks,

Almost everyone today has an email account. Be it for business or personal correspondence, security can be an issue. Email itself, inherently, is insecure. Although you can connect to your email provider over TLS or SSL, that does not mean your email is encrypted, it just means your connection to the server is.

Now going full encryption can be a bit of overkill. Especially since that in order for it to be read by whoever you are sending the email to, that person would need your private key to decrypt the email. Now this is not so bad if you are only sending email to one person, but if you have several people, it can get a bit complicated keeping track of who does and who does not have your public key, and them trying to instruct those users on how to install the key… I get a headache just thinking about it.…

The Wonderful World of Linux

Its been a while since I made a post to my blog. I really should keep up with it. So in an attempt to do so, I decided to write about what I am currently engulfed in: The Wonderful World of Linux. In my life time I have used all major operating systems. In my younger years, before college, I was raised on Mac, up to OS 9… I never got into OS X as by the time it was released, I had already switched over to Windows. Throughout College I mainly worked on Windows and started to dabble in Linux, mind you back then they didn’t have the amount of flavours you have today.…

VMWare ESXi 6 vs Windows Hyper-V

I just spent the weekend reformatting my home server from Windows 2012R2 Data Center running Hyper-V to VMWare ESXi 6. Now installation issues aside, as ESXi can be very picky, ESXi seems to be exactly what I am looking for as far as virtualization goes.

A little background into my situation first: A few months back I picked up a system I was planning on doing virtualization with. I already had a copy of Win2K12R2 Data Center from when I took a course at Dawson College here in Montreal, so I took advantage of the new system and installed it. I had installed Hyper-V, but didn’t do anything with it until about a month ago when I installed a test of CentOS 7.…

Do people really fall for this stuff?

If you have an email account, then chances are, you’ve received one of these, or multiples.  And more the likely, a few different variants of the same thing.  This latest one though, made me laugh… How could ANYONE possibly fall for this?

The Division – A quick Review

Some of you know a while back I gave up PC Gaming, in fact I haven’t really been on my desktop PC except to do research.  All my gaming is now done via my PS4 which I purchased last December.  I used to always think keyboard and mouse were the only way to play FPS games (first person shooters) but I tell ya, the consoles aren’t half bad.  Now The Division is not an FPS, it’s an over the shoulder shooter or third person shooter, but the concept for the control is the same, point and shoot.

So, lets review the game.  …
