The U.S. Government has shutdown…

I am not much for news, I listen to MP3s and watch Netflix, I don’t have Cable TV, anf I don’t subscribe to any newspapers.  So I get all my news from random hits on the web, if it peaks my interest, I do a Google search for more info…

picThe image to the left caught my eye on Facebook today and on any other day it would seem like a funny little saying, which is what I took it as at first.

It wasn’t until I saw a second post on Facebook that it started to click… Some government was shutting down.…

Windows 8.1 Releases 17 of October, what to do in the mean time…

Back in August I was looking for when the famed 8.1 update for Windows was going to be released. The answer then was Mid September, since then it has been pushed back till the 17th of October, about 2 weeks from now. But for some, 2 weeks on Windows 8 is a life time.

Personally Windows 8 was a huge leap for myself, and I know its been a hard transition for many people. As I work in a Public Computer Centre, I get asked alot as to how to use, or navigate Windows 8. The 2 most common complains are “How do I get to my desktop” and “Where are all my programs”.…

WTF

The top 4 things I read today that made me say WTF?! (My Second WTF Post)

It’s rare I come across something so messed up that it makes me say WTF (“What the F*ck” for those who do not know abbreviations very well). Today is one of those rare occasions.

The list is in chronological order (the order I came across them) and not based on their WTFness (level of WTF).

#1 & #2 – NASA SCIENTISTS ADMIT THE FACT – THEY FOUND HEAVEN – GOD EXISTS – LOST CITY OF ATLANTIS FOUND

I came across a post on Facebook (of all places) which contained a link to a site with the title “NASA SCIENTISTS ADMIT THE FACT – THEY FOUND HEAVEN – GOD EXISTS – LOST CITY OF ATLANTIS FOUND“, the site only contains two posts, the first entitled “EXPERTS FIND GLASS PYRAMIDS SUBMERGED IN THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE MYSTERY” which tells a poorly spun tail of how crystal pyramids, larger then the ones in Egypt, reside under the Bermuda Triangle.…

How long will the internet, as we know it, last?

The question in the title is posed based on a few articles I have recent read on the web. The first was an article about a US ISP looking to charge websites if they want their content carried over the network, much like Cable TV.

An article on InfoWorld.com states that Verizon is trying to turn the web into pay-per-view. They are currently in court fighting to end the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) policy of Net neutrality. If they win, it would allow them to selectively block or slow traffic to certain sites and protocols. It would also mean that companies like Verizon could charge sites like YouTube and Netflix a premium to have their packets travel over their network unrestricted, which could in turn raise prices for sites that are already membership driven (Netflix) and sites that are currently free may have to charge the viewer to subsidize the cost (YouTube).…

Two awesome POV Music Videos by Biting Elbows

BitingElbowsIOE2
For those who are wondering POV Means Point of View, and yes it is used immensely in the Adult Film industry, however it is not exclusive to it. I came across these videos by way of a post on Facebook by HQHumor which posted a link to Jumpoverthere.com.

So what are the videos about? Imagine seeing through James Bond’s eyes (or any spy for that matter). Of course put to some really good high energy music. The main character of the video is stealing a portal device, which has the same effect as the Jumpers did in “Jumper”, and is activated by Water (as will become very apparent after watching the videos).…

A New game that I thoroughly enjoy.

I am a big fan of MMORPGs (Mass Multi Player Online Role Playing Games) and am a recovering World of WarCrack (World of Warcraft) addict (well, not really, although I did enjoy the earlier versions of the game). Ever since I quit WoW, I have looked for something similar that can keep me enticed.

I tried getting back into WoW not too long ago, and found that they had pretty much killed the game, by that I mean its not as fun as it used to be. They’ve made it TOO easy to play… In the days before they released the Cataclysm expansion it was so much more fun.…

Hotmail/Outlook forcing recovery options forcing a secure password would be a better option.

UPDATE (2019/04/12): The site I was using for Password Fault no longer worked. They have switched to Passwordfault.com, however, their site is not secure (non-https) and therefore has been updated to Comparitech.

Not too long ago Microsoft’s free webmail, Hotmail, got a facelift and a name change. The new Outlook as it is called is now forcing its recovery options on the end user, making them chose between only two options, cell or email. The problem is, not everyone has a cell phone or an alternate email.

As most of you know I am a manager at a public computer centre in Montreal, Canada, and on a daily basis I deal with several patrons whom most of which use Outlook as their email of choice.…

Is it possible that we don’t see the same colours?

Is it possible that we don’t see the same colours?
This question has plagued my mind for decades…

I have several pleasant memories of my late father, but when this question – “Do we really see the same colors?” – hit my mind again today, a not so pleasant memory came to mind. When I was younger, maybe 15 or 16, I posed this question to my father, “What if what I see as green grass, to you is really blue grass, we only both call it green because that is what we were taught?”, the response I got was an agitated “Don’t be stupid”.…

Patron Saint of Computers

Saint-Isidore-wallpaper
Yup, you read the title right, there is a Patron Saint of computers as well as computer users, computer programmers, and the Internet. His name is Saint Isidore of Seville. I only bring it up because I was doing some work for a patron of the Library, creating cards with “A Prayer to Our Blessed Mother”, it got me thinking, who watches over me, a Computer Geek.

So I did a quick search for Patron Saints and didn’t find anything huge, so I narrowed my search to Patron Saint of Computers and up came Saint Isidore. If you wish to read more info on him, you can find his info on Wikipedia which has a link to the first site I found on SQPN (Star Quest Production Network).…
