Over the last few days I have been helping a patron of the library where I work transfer his email from his current service provider to a newly created Outlook account. As this is new to me I decided to create a tutorial video in hope it will help others back up their old emails before canceling an account.
Give me link to download the app

Hi Matthew,
I just did a 301 redirect for a client of mine, and in the process the email account’s were in the hosting accounts. further, I canceled the hosting account that the 301 redirect website was hosted on. The following week the client wanted to login in to the email account; however, the hosting account was canceled. if I download eM Client will I be able to access the accounts or what can I do? please help me out with this situation.
Charlie
Hello Charlie,
First and for most, sorry for the late reply. In regards to your question, if the account has been canceled, you will not be able to access it, however, you may wish to reach out to the hoster to see if you can get the mail re-enabled for a short time to retrieve the emails. Canceled does not mean deleted in most cases. However, the account needs to be active to gain access. If the host refuses (they have the right to as you canceled) or the account has been permanently deleted, then I am afraid the only copy of the emails reside in the senders sent box.
Hope this helps.
Matt
Hello,
Okay I don’t know if you’re still viewing the YouTube comments for this video, but I sincerely hope you are because I am having a huge issue with eM Client. I was so happy to come across your video: “Easily transfer email from one account to another”. I uploaded eM Client (free version) and I’m guessing it must be the current version because the version I have looks a lot different from the one in the video. I only needed to transfer emails from my old email address (the provider is or soon-to-be obsolete) to a new email address (I chose Hotmail). I had a hard time trying to connect my old email company because eM Client didn’t recognize the configurations at first but after many tries it finally worked and I was able to transfer every email I wanted. I had no problems connecting my Hotmail email address as eM Client quickly recognized the configurations to connect that address. MY PROBLEM? After reading some of the comments below, I decided to do a little experiment. I opened eM Client (which still contains the connect HOTMAIL and old email address) and I deleted a folder (from the Hotmail connected account in eM CLient) I made for some of the transferred emails. I then logged into my Hotmail account and discovered, sure enough, it was DELETED from there too. I quickly went back to eM Client and moved the deleted folder from TRASH back to my connected Hotmail account. Now I’m afraid to DELETE my STILL CONNECTED new Hotmail account from eM Client and then logged into my new Hotmail email only to find ALL my transferred folders (containing the emails) DELETED and ALL my HARD WORK was for nothing! Hope you see this and have any suggestions/help. Thanks
Hello,
First and foremost, sorry for the late reply. I do check my Youtube comments, but flag it to reply another day, and then the day escapes me. I am trying to wrap my head around what you have done. The video shows you how to easily move from one account to another. I personally have never gone as far as you have with testing deleting of folders etc. The problem with deleting is that if you deleted it in emClient and it went to the deleted folder on Hotmail, (not local folder) then you may have deleted the emails for good. If it went to the deleted folder locally in eMclient, then moving it back would take some time as it has to sync.
You have to look at eMclient as another interface to Webmail. Everything you do in the client will reflect in the webmail… For instance, if I send an email from eMclient using the attached Hotmail account, it will put the email in the sent folder, which will also appear in the sent folder online, because the folders are the same. The messages are not stored locally like you might have if you were attached to an ISP provided email (known as a POP account). So if you delete an email or a folder in eMclient, it’s the same as if you did it from the web interface at hotmail.com.
I hope this gives you some idea on what happened.
Regards,
Matthew
Hi Matthew,
Oh boy, where to begin? I hope this does not sound as confusing as it does to me. I am not the most tech-savvy person to begin with and this process is very new to me. Okay, firstly, no folders were deleted, I did not delete the FOLDERS.
This is what I’ve previously done: I downloaded the current version (which I now know through reviews, is supposedly the worst version) of eM Client. I CONNECTED 2 email addresses to eM Client. Both old email address (MYWAY) and my new email address (HOTMAIL). I then proceeded to make folders (done while still in eM Client) and put all the old saved email MESSAGES from my OLD email address into these folders. I then TRANSFERRED (moved) those folders to my NEW email address. Again, all of this was done through eM Client. The end. The folders containing the emails were transferred, seemingly correctly. However, what I did notice, is if I happened to check any CURRENT email messages WHILE IN EM CLIENT from my NEW hotmail email address and I decide to delete the message. Well, later on, if I physically sign/log into my new email address, the message would show up deleted there too. I now understand that whatever I do to my email messages while IN EM CLIENT and because the new email address is STILL CONNECTED to eM Client, then that action also effects the new email address once I sign/log into the email address. I get this, finally, lol.
What I want to know is: Once I DISCONNET/REMOVE/DELETE the new email address from eM Client, will all my transferred folders containing my old email messages from the old email account be deleted too??? My new email address uses IMAP.
Apologies for any confusion and thank you for responding.
Best Regards,
Mal
Ok, I think I understand now. As mentioned before eMClient is sort of a remote control, in that when connected anything you do in eMClient is reflected in your hotmail account. But you can safely disconnect the account from eMClient (remove account) without it affecting hotmail. I hope this helps.

Matthew
