Its been over 2 years since the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, which due to its location, makes it far worse then Chernobyl disaster of 1986. Because the plant sits directly on the ocean, tons of radio active water has been pumped into the oceans, contaminating our already fragile ecosystem.
It is sad to see that we have become our own demise. We need not create a World War III to end our planet, we simply have to be ourselves… We are a destructive race, and again I do not mean a Warring race, although we are that as well, but our very nature, we destroy and consume all that is around us, we create dangerous power plants in areas that should have never had them. I mean seriously… who’s bright idea was it to build a Nuclear Power Plant in an area prone to earthquakes… The whole issue was brought on by a Tsunami, it was bound to happen at some time… we constantly test fate, and now fate has bit back, and its not a small bite either… Watch the following video, we’ve gone and f@#$ed ourselves good this time. What really worries me, is the way they are handling it… one bad move and two rods touch, we will only escalate our own destruction. And where would we put all the rods? How do you dispose of a material with a half life of thousands of years… A material so volatile that if exposed to air, would burn giving of even more radiation… We’ve doomed ourselves, its just a matter of time before we do something so catastrophic that it would end us all, if we haven’t already…

OK just finished watching “MeltDown” on NetFlix.. a 45 min documentary about this topic… the best 45 minutes… Get educated People… this stuff always his news… then is pushed aside. we have even found a semi solution to clean the oceans of radiation… but it wont solve them all in a timely manner… damage is already being felt around the world.
Just finished wathing it myself. Now in the video it says that Chernobyl is still the worst nuclear disaster, however the ramifications of Fukushima I believe are far worse than those of Chernobyl, primarily because of the fact it was on the coast (Direct leakage into the Pacific Ocean). Another article I read says that the radion has already reach the west coast, but due to the 2 major currents between Japan and the states, that the radiation has been diluted to ammounts below those deemed acceptable by the World Health Organization (WHO). Thats is great news for the surfers, they won’t get heavy doses of radiation while hanging ten, however as the video above states, the ecology is still affected, it compounds in algae, which is then eaten by the next animal in the food chain, and so on and so forth till it gets to us and its 100 times the acceptable dose limit. We’re still screwed. Until they get the actual site contained (as of today its still leaking contaminated water) a clean up is useless. Its like trying to mop up the floor under a leaking pipe, your gonna be there a very long time unless you fix the pipe.
Now I have not head more ont he removal of the cylinders in REactor 4, other than the process to remove them started sometime in November. This is of course only a small part of the whole issue, but still very significant.
